私たちについて

hand to hand.

We embrace the art of Kintsugi and a profound appreciation for antique pieces, aiming to revive the timeless beauty these objects have carried through the ages and reintroduce that beauty into our everyday lives.
For Kintsugi, we accept repair requests and also hold workshops to share its techniques and spirit. For antiques, we primarily focus on Delftware, complemented by Asian antique pieces for display and sale, while also presenting Kintsugi works featuring vintage ceramics.
With deep respect for the traditions, craftsmanship, and aesthetic sensibilities cultivated by artisans over many generations, we devote ourselves to cherishing these legacies and passing them on for the future.

Embracing the beauty
of imperfection.

The craft of mending objects with lacquer and returning them to daily life dates back to the Jōmon period. These techniques—and the worldview they reflect—were passed down by countless unnamed individuals, long before the idea of a “craftsman” even existed. They have quietly endured through time, becoming deeply woven into how we live and relate to the vessels around us. As a sense of beauty began to take root, these repairs evolved. Artisans not only used lacquer to mend cracks in ceramics but also began to decorate them with gold, colored lacquer, mother-of-pearl inlay, maki-e, and other ornate forms. This method of restoration became known as kintsugi. Yet kintsugi is not limited to gold. It includes colored lacquer finishes, metals like platinum, silver, or tin, and decorative details using mother-of-pearl and maki-e.
My path into kintsugi began with an intuitive realization: it is more than a technique. It embodies a quiet, profound spirituality—one that echoes Japanese views on life, death, and the impermanence carried through generations.

The cultural background of Kintsugi is inextricably tied to the blossoming of the tea ceremony aesthetics championed by tea masters of the Muromachi period. The beauty that resides in “imperfection,” and the subtle stirring it evokes—here is where Japan’s distinctive sense of aesthetics takes shape.
During an era when light was scarce, gold undoubtedly emitted a more precious, subdued glow than it does today. By using such valuable gold in the act of Kintsugi, new vistas appeared on a vessel’s surface like trails of light, opening a significant path for the aesthetic expressions found in In Praise of Shadows and the Way of Tea.
In our modern era, gold and light abound. And precisely because of that, by bringing forth its rare, intrinsic beauty through age-old materials, techniques, and settings, we rekindle a deeply rooted aesthetic consciousness. This is the profound allure and power that Kintsugi possesses.

継ぎ繕う、
不完全の美と共に在ること。

漆で繕い、人の暮らしに道具や器を戻すという手仕事の歴史は縄文時代にさかのぼります。無名の人々が紡いできた技術、まだ職人という言葉すら存在しない時代から、その世界観は現代の私たちの根底に受け継がれ、流れ続けているのです。後に「美」という意識が芽吹く中で、陶器などの器に生じた割れや欠けを漆で繕うだけでなく金や、色漆、螺鈿、蒔絵などの多彩な表現が加わった伝統的な修復技法の総称を「金継ぎ」と呼びます。実際には金だけに限らず、色漆による仕上げ、白金・銀・錫といった多様な金属表現、さらには螺鈿細工、蒔絵による豊かな彩りで極めて幅広い表現方法が含まれます。
私がこの道へと進んだのは、金継ぎが単なる技術に留まることなく、そこに内包する精神性は日本人が古来より育んできた「死生観」や「無常観」に通じる深く静謐な世界観に根差していると直感的に感じたからです。

金継ぎの文化的背景は、室町時代の茶人たちの茶の湯の美学の開花と切り離すことができません。「不完全さ」に息づく美、惹きつけられ揺り動かされる心、ここに日本独特の審美眼が生まれます。光の少ない時代に金は現代より、もっと尊く鈍い光を放っていたはずです。修復を貴重な金で行うという「金継ぎ」という行為により、器に新しい景色が光跡として現れたことは、陰翳礼讃、茶道の表現の中に大きな道を開いたはずなのです。
現代においては、金も光も溢れています。しかしだからこそ、その本来の稀有な美を古来の材料と技術、設えの中で浮上させることで、私たちの根底に繋がる美意識の記憶が蘇るのです。これこそが金継ぎの持つ深い魅力であり力なのです。

CEO / Kintsugi master

He began his career as a French chef, then moved on to work in the fields of architecture and spatial decoration. After a 30-year hiatus, he returned to craftsmanship and now works as a Kintsugi artisan, restoring pieces using time-honored Japanese methods. Drawing on a keen eye and broad perspective refined through his long experience in interior decoration, he carries the baton of traditional techniques into the modern era. As a devoted craftsman, he strives to safeguard spaces that awaken the aesthetic consciousness at our core and to continually shine a light on beauty.

フランス料理人から建築、空間装飾を経て30年ぶりに職人に復帰。現在は日本古来の手法で修復する金継師として活動。長年の空間装飾で鍛え上げた眼と広い視野で、現代へ伝統技術のバトンを繋ぐ。人の根底に流れる美意識の気づきを促す場を守り、美にあかりを灯し続けることに一職人として力を尽くし続ける。

Harumi Daikuhara

Coordinator / First-class architect

She studied architecture from an urban design perspective in graduate school and worked as an architect. Later, after experiencing expansive landscape art in the United States and long-term workshops in depopulated areas of Japan, she developed a deep interest in the beauty that emerges from the connection between nature and people, leading her to shift her focus toward interior decoration. Currently, she aims to serve as a bridge for the creation of primitive beauty born from human expression.

コーディネーター / 一級建築士

大学院で都市デザインの視点から建築を学び、設計士として活動。その後、アメリカの広大なランドスケープアートや日本の過疎地でのロングワークショップを経て、自然と人との接点から生み出される美に関心を抱き、室内装飾へと活動の軸を移す。現在は、人が生み出すプリミティブな美を創出する架け橋となることを目指す。

As a place that

Nestled at the foot of Hachioji’s lush mountains, near a clear river with cherry trees along its banks, we host a small Kintsugi Class in a combined shop and classroom space. Through the art of Kintsugi, our aim is to share traditional techniques that have been passed down since the Muromachi period with as many people as possible, ensuring that this precious cultural heritage endures into the future. In our classes, we use only natural materials sourced entirely in Japan—starting with lacquer—and carefully selected tools handcrafted by Japanese artisans. We insist on Japanese-made supplies because we wish to pass on, unchanged, the very materials and implements that have sustained artisans’ hands and eyes since ancient times.
In addition to a course that meets twice a month, we will also offer workshops and study sessions that bring lacquer into everyday life, as well as hands-on training to repeatedly build essential skills.

⼋王⼦の緑豊かな⼭々の麓、河岸の桜並⽊が美しい清流のせせらぎ近い店舗兼教室にて、⼩さな⾦継ぎ教室を主宰しております。⾦継ぎを通して、室町時代から続く伝統的な職⼈技術を⼀⼈でも多くの⽅にお伝えし、その貴重な⽂化を途絶えさせることなく未来へと繋いでいきたいと考えています。
教室では漆をはじめ、すべて⽇本産の⾃然素材を⽤い、厳選した⽇本の職⼈達が作り続けている道具で学んでいただきます。これらすべてを⽇本産にこだわるのは、古来より職⼈たちの⽬と⼿を⽀え続けてきた素材や道具を、そのまま次世代へつなげたいという思いからです。
⽉に 2 度通うコースに加え、漆を⾝近に感じられるワーショップや勉強会、ベースとなる技量を繰り返し⾝につける講習等をご⽤意して参ります。
